Miraflores, a little taste of Peru

Peru is a place in South America where you will find one of the many wonders of the world Machu Picchu. I didn’t get to go to Machu Picchu, but that did not stop me from enjoying my short trip to Miraflores. This district makes up the city of Lima, the capital of Peru. My trip to Miraflores was quick, and apart from shopping, clubbing, and eating, there were a few discoveries on site.

Mercado Indio

Mercado Indio or translated to India Market, filled with storefronts, vendors selling various items such as textiles, jewelry, paintings, cultural accessories, and many souvenirs. It is a touristy place, and the prices can be high, but there is always the possibility of haggling down vendors’ costs. From stones, crystals, sage, art, paintings, and other cultural souvenirs, the Mercado Indio has it all!

Kennedy Park in Miraflores

I grew up with cats! I find infinite wisdom in the eyes of any animal, especially cats. It was surprising to find a treasure of hundreds of cats roaming around Kennedy Park in Miraflores. They are everywhere, and if you are allergic to cats, I recommend not even going close to the park. Feel free to feed the cats; know that they are hungry, and they will bite food out of your hands like savages, but they are still cute!

What is Cuy?

The cuisine is a big part of my travel, and I knew that I had to try the famous Cuy. In Peru, people eat Cuy, which is a Peruvian guinea pig. I was excited to try it until I saw it on my plate and questioned my sanity and right to eat this. Still, you only live once, and I flew to another continent might as well try it. How did it taste? I know it would be weird to compare it to chicken, but what else could I have compared it with, maybe frog meat, thin, and tasty!

Huaca Pucllana

I knew I would not be able to see Machu Picchu, so they told us they would take us to some ruins nearby called Huaca Pucllana. These ruins are a well-preserved temple in the middle of the city of Miraflores.

I understood that traveling to Peru you need plenty of time to go and see Machu Picchu and any other surrounding ancient ruins. The trip to get to Machu Picchu is very detailed and extensive, and hopefully, one day, I could write about it.
